My ideas about wind ranges |
0 mph. - 1 mph. : This wind range is only for
zero wind or indoor flying kites. Kite line is as important as the kite
when flying this level of kite. Spectra 30 lb. or Spectra 50 lb. lines
are the lines of choice. Line length is also important. When flying ultra-lite
kites lines are generally 50 ft. or shorter for control reasons.
1 mph. - 3 mph. : This wind range is considered
ultra-lite and for advanced flyers only. Hours of practice is required
to become good at this level of flying. As with the zero wind kites you
will find short 30 lb. - 50 lb. spectra lines are needed. The advantage
to owning these kites are that when other flyers are waiting for wind
you are flying.
4 mph. - 7mph. : Winds in this speed range are
approching what most people consider good flying winds. They are wrong!
This wind range will still require more flying skills and low wind flying
equipment. Most very inexpensive kites will not fly at this wind range.
These kites will have heavy frames and heavy low quality Dacron flying
lines to make them more durable and crash resistant.
8 mph. - 12 mph. : Now we are in the normal wind
range for all flyers. With these winds you will be able to launch and
maintain flight with out much trouble. Crashes and landing will be with
in the grasp of new flyers and advanced flyers will be able to practice
thoses advanced stalls and trick moves.
13 mph. - 18 mph. : This |
